Ritual gets to play quite a variety of gigs which means he gets to really test out a wide spectrum of music. From playing funk and atmospheric dnb stylings at a residency at Home that lasted almost 5 years, to roughing up the ride at 50/50’s Tuff Cookie Coalition and tearing it up for the raver crew, it’s the across the board aspect of breaks, drum n’ bass and house that keeps him buzzing. Here's a brief history of his past work..
Drum n’ Bass wise, Canadian jungle don RCola has sent Rituals' ‘Halls’ to press for his Jungle Expeditions imprint and also he’s about to start a label for Ritual named Conscious Rebel. CRM001 has just been sent to master for imminent release. Just completed and on test press is a remix for Budspells that will be forthcoming on Chrome Yellow. Legendary Bristolian DJ Suv (think Mercury Prize winning Reprazent / Full Cycle) has earmarked 2 tunes that Ritual has done with Spikey Tee for his Playside imprint. One of which has featured on Bass Kleph’s In The Mix CD (entitled ‘Bun Dem Down’) and has just been released on 12” with a Suv remix. He is now asking for a possible album too… The heaviest man in breakbeat (Klaus ‘Heavweight’ Hill) sets Ritual the task of remixing his breaks tunes in DnB stylee.
Speaking of breaks, Ritual and a couple of his very close friends that most people know as Kid Kenobi and Q45 have done a few remixes as ‘Red’ over the last year. The first being Barcelona which immediately blew up dancefloors and sold out within weeks of release (it also made it on to a Krafty Kuts mix more recently). Also a ‘Nasty Tales’ remix for Hussle (which also sold out within weeks and features on the new Ministry of Sound maximum Bass cd) and a remix of JDS – Rockstar which features on both a remix 12” and the JDS album. All breaks tunes have featured on Kid Kenobi’s ‘Clubbers Guide To Breaks’ CD’s.
Finally, as a 44 artist, there’s just been a remix of Q45 and Amy B’s ‘Naughty’ and the beginning of a long relationship with bambamMuzik in the form of ‘Stitch Up’, Ritual's first release on the label!
